What’s Your Number?
We set out to encourage people aged between 40 and 60 to visit their GP practice for a blood pressure test. The message was simple : ‘Know your number, know your risk. If you know the dangers, you can make simple changes that could save your life’.
It has been a great success with awareness events staged across Blackpool, including sessions in the changing rooms at Bloomfield Road, on a double-decker bus and in bingo halls. One very special tram even displays the message on the prom every day.
As a result of the campaign, an additional 15,000 people had a blood pressure test. Of these, 2,769 were placed on the hypertension register as a result and are now receiving treatment. To put this into perspective, by treating these people appropriately, we will potentially prevent 70 cardiovascular events – such as a heart attack or stroke – per year.
