Get Fit2Go in the Park with Boxing Champ

He’s currently training hard for his next big fight, but Blackpool boxing champ Brian ‘The Lion’ Rose has added an extra special session to his preparations.

‘The Lion’ is inviting youngsters from across the town to join him in a unique Fit2Go session at Stanley Park on Saturday 18th July from 11am – 1pm as he cranks up the training for his rematch against Carson Jones on Saturday 1st August.

Fit2Go is the award-winning, six week healthy lifestyle and physical activity programme, delivered by Blackpool FC Community Trust, in every Blackpool primary school as part of Altogether Now – a Legacy for Blackpool – the partnership between the NHS in Blackpool (Clinical Commissioning Group and Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust); Blackpool Football Club; and Blackpool Council).

Fit2Go inspires youngsters to lead a healthier lifestyle, take part in regular physical activity and to join in with local sports clubs and community programmes.

Brian, who is Altogether Now Health Ambassador for Fit2Go, said: “My kids, Oscar and Penelope, drive me to succeed. They are the reason I work so hard at becoming the best I possibly can.

“I’m really proud to be involved in Altogether Now and to support the great work taking place. If I can inspire local children to get fitter, happier and healthier that’s brilliant.

“The people of Blackpool have always been behind me throughout my career. Training for a fight is hard but I thought by inviting as many local children along as possible they’d help give me the final push. It’s also a way of giving something back for the support they and their parents have always given to me.”

Brian, along with Blackpool FC Community Trust staff, will be on hand to provide a number of physical activities for everybody to get involved in on the day.

The session is absolutely free of charge just contact Blackpool FC Community Trust on 01253 348691 to book a place.

Ashley Hackett, Head of Community at Blackpool FC Community Trust added: “Brian was very keen to put this session on, taking time out of his busy schedule to give something back to Blackpool kids.

“We’re very thankful for that, because with his continued support we are educating young children and their families about the importance of leading a healthier lifestyle through diet and exercise. His support for Fit2Go and our Altogether Now partnership is crucial and is ultimately helping us to get more children physically active.”

Those taking part in the session are asked to meet at the clock tower in Stanley Park prior to the prompt start time of 11am.
